Hardscaping & Retaining Wall Installation in Sacramento & Surrounding Areas
American Gardens Landscaping builds the hard structure of your yard — retaining walls, patios, walkways, and stone features — for homeowners across the Sacramento area. Hardscaping fails when the hidden work is skipped: footings, drainage, and compaction. We do the hidden work properly, which is why our walls stand straight and our stonework stays put. Every hardscaping project comes with our 12-month workmanship warranty. Licensed, Bonded & Insured — Lic. #1105341.
Retaining Walls, Built to Hold
A retaining wall is a structure, not a decoration. Ours are built this way:
- Trench and footing — a level trench is excavated and a compacted gravel footing is laid.
- First course buried — the first block course is set level and partially buried for strength.
- Drainage behind the wall — gravel backfill and drainage carry water away, so pressure never builds up behind the wall.
- Courses and caps — blocks are stacked, aligned, and finished with solid capstones.
- Backfill and finish — the area behind and around the wall is backfilled, compacted, and graded clean.
We also build pressure-treated timber retaining walls where wood suits the design, and natural stone and stone-veneer walls for a premium finish.

- Base and footings — compacted gravel footings that everything else stands on.
- Construction — walls, stone, and flatwork built course by course, checked for level and line.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do retaining walls lean or fail?
A: Almost always water and footing: no drainage behind the wall, or a shallow, uncompacted base. We build both correctly, so the wall holds.
Q: Do I need a wall, or can the slope just be planted?
A: It depends on the slope and what is above and below it. We will assess it on site and tell you honestly — sometimes planting and terracing is enough.
Q: How long does a wall project take?
A: Most residential walls take several days to about a week depending on length, height, and access. Your estimate includes a schedule.
Q: Do you warranty your hardscaping work?
A: Yes — our retaining walls and hardscaping installations carry a 12-month workmanship warranty.
Q: Can you repair a failing wall?
A: Yes — and where the original build skipped the footing or drainage, we will show you exactly what we find and what rebuilding it right involves.
